About the Role:

This is a great opportunity to support investment activity across Great British Energy's onshore energy portfolio. The role will help identify, assess and deliver investment opportunities in technologies such as onshore wind, solar, co-located storage, flexible generation and long duration energy storage. You will work with colleagues across GBE, government and the wider energy sector to support investments through their full lifecycle, from origination and early engagement through due diligence, approvals, delivery and ongoing management. The role will suit someone who is interested in clean energy, enjoys working with a range of stakeholders, and can turn complex information into clear advice for senior decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support investment activity across the lifetime of onshore energy investments, from early market engagement through to transaction execution and ongoing portfolio support.
  • Identify and help originate opportunities for GBE investment within defined areas including onshore wind, solar, co-located storage, flexible generation and storage technologies, including long duration energy storage.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders across the energy sector, public and private sector financial institutions, and government.
  • Support the procurement and management of investment due diligence, including working with technical, legal, commercial, financial and ESG advisers where required.
  • Draft clear investment materials, briefing notes and recommendations for senior colleagues, governance forums and investment committees.
  • Support the navigation of government approval and sign-off processes for GBE investment activity.
  • Share specialist knowledge across GBE and support other teams where onshore energy, storage or investment expertise is needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • A commercial background in the UK power and renewables sector with a strong track record of creating value in a market facing role.
  • Exposure to equity investments or M&A in an energy or infrastructure context, and a detailed knowledge of the principles and contract structures used in these sectors.
  • Highly numerate and financially literate, with an excellent understanding of valuation techniques and financial modelling.
  • Ability to analyse complex information, identify key risks and opportunities, and explain them clearly to non-specialist audiences.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear briefing and decision-making materials.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work at pace when needed.

Desirable:

  • Experience or specialist knowledge of onshore wind, solar, battery storage, flexible generation, long duration energy storage or wider UK power markets.
  • Financial or management accounting qualifications.
  • Development experience in energy or other similar utilities.
  • Exposure to energy project lifecycles, including an understanding of key risks in energy and infrastructure development.
  • Experience or knowledge of government investment and sign-off processes.
  • A degree in a relevant field, such as science, engineering, economics, finance, another related discipline, would be desirable. Relevant professional experience, training or qualifications in energy, finance, economics, engineering or a related field would be helpful.

Personal Qualities:

  • Takes ownership, shows confidence in decision-making, and is willing to challenge constructively.
  • Focuses on delivering meaningful outcomes and making a positive, lasting impact.
  • Works collaboratively, valuing different perspectives and building inclusive relationships.
  • Proactive and adaptable, with a curiosity to explore new ideas and improve ways of working.
  • Resilient and resourceful in a fast-paced environment.
