My client is seeking an experienced and detail focused Electrical Estimator to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical installation projects across commercial and industrial sectors. You will work closely with pre-construction, commercial, and project delivery teams to support successful tender submissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review blueprints, technical drawings and project specifications to identify the full electrical scope, including wire lengths, fixtures, and distribution systems.
  • Carry out material take-offs – quantifying all necessary materials (e.g. conduits, switches, lighting, cables) and researching current market prices to ensure accurate costing.
  • Analyse labour, plant, materials, preliminaries, and overheads.
  • Estimating the required man-hours based on project complexity and determining the costs for specialised equipment like lifts or generators.
  • Compiling detailed bid packages and formal quotations to compete for new contracts.
  • Coordinating with suppliers for quotes, negotiating with subcontractors, and presenting final estimates to clients or senior management.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and value-engineering options.
  • Attend tender clarification meetings when required.
  • Provide estimating support during bid handover to project and commercial teams.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator.
  • In depth understanding of electrical codes (e.g. BS 7671) and electrical systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience using software, such as Trimble, and proficient in using Microsoft Office.
  • High attention to detail, strong mathematical aptitude and excellent negotiation skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet tender deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Electrical qualification (NVQ Level 3, or equivalent).
  • Professional credentials such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE).
  • Experience working in a similar environment would be advantageous.
