Resource Data Management (RDM) is a global specialist in energy and building controls, trusted by leading retailers and blue-chip organisations worldwide. We deliver sustainable control and remote monitoring solutions that help customers reduce energy costs and achieve their sustainability objectives.
With strategically located offices and a carefully selected distributor network, we design and manufacture HVACR (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) control and monitoring solutions across multiple sectors, including Retail, Commercial, Industrial, Public Sector, and Hospitality. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do.
Role Purpose
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Product Owner to lead the vision, roadmap, and delivery of Active FM 2.0 – our next generation smart facilities management platform. Active FM 2.0 will move beyond traditional reporting, evolving into a must-have proactive tool, depended on daily, by facilities management companies and end-users alike. The platform’s aim is not just to show what is happening, but to support real-time root cause analysis, enabling action before critical failures happen.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Ownership
- Define and own the product vision and roadmap for Active FM, ensuring it serves both refrigeration, energy management and BMS domain users across RDM’s target verticals.
- Translate business objectives, customer requirements, and domain-specific operational needs into clear user stories and a prioritised, continuously maintained product backlog.
- Ensure the platform is architected to be scalable, modular, and extensible, capable of supporting current refrigeration and BMS use cases while enabling future verticals such as asset management.
- Own the end-to-end product definition across all dashboard surfaces, data integrations, alerting workflows, and reporting capabilities.
- Customer-Centric Development
- Embed Voice of Customer (VOC) insights from store managers, energy managers, FM operators, and refrigeration engineers into every product decision, ensuring Active FM solves real operational problems, not assumed ones.
- Design platform features that go beyond data visualisation. Every dashboard tile should enable action, support root cause analysis, and reduce time-to-resolution for the end user.
- Conduct regular customer discovery and usability research, using findings to validate roadmap priorities and surface unmet needs across both refrigeration, energy management and BMS domains.
- Benchmark Active FM against leading competitors in the HVACR, smart FM, and building intelligence space, ensuring the platform is market leading.
- Feature & Use Case Ownership
- Oversee development and continuous improvement of core platform capabilities, including temperature compliance monitoring and audit trail generation, energy management and consumption analytics, asset tracking, maintenance scheduling, and lifecycle management, BMS zone monitoring, alarm management, and setpoint visibility.
- Define and maintain the feature acceptance criteria that ensure each capability delivers measurable operational value.
- Ensure features are designed to support multi-site, multi-tenant deployments at the scale of national retail and FM estate management.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Applications and Embedded engineering teams to drive iterative delivery and maintain platform quality.
- Partner with the Technical Product Owner (Hardware Platform) to ensure the SaaS platform fully exploits hardware capabilities, creating a coherent end-to-end product experience.
- Align roadmap decisions with business stakeholders to ensure feature investment reflects revenue opportunity and customer retention priorities.
- Act as the primary voice of the product within the development team, resolving backlog ambiguity and unblocking delivery.
- Compliance & Regulatory Awareness
- Maintain working knowledge of regulatory obligations relevant to Active FM’s data, e.g. temperature compliance mandates for food retail.
- Ensure the platform’s reporting and audit capabilities are designed to satisfy compliance workflows for end users, reducing manual effort and risk of non-compliance.
- Monitor changes in applicable regulation and proactively translate these into product requirements.
- Go-to-Market Execution
- Lead go-to-market planning for new platform releases in collaboration with sales, marketing, and Support, covering rollout sequencing, client onboarding, and adoption support.
- Define and maintain product documentation, release notes, and feature guides that equip both internal teams and end users to derive value from the platform quickly.
- Support sales teams in articulating Active FM’s value proposition to large retailers, FM companies, and framework agreement partners, with particular emphasis on compliance, energy savings, and operational efficiency outcomes.
- Market Research & Data-Driven Insight
- Stay ahead of industry trends, technology innovation, and competitive developments across RDM’s markets.
- Use platform analytics, support data, and customer feedback to continuously validate priorities, measure feature adoption, and drive evidence-based iteration.
- Define and track KPIs that reflect genuine product success, feature adoption, energy reduction outcomes, mean time to resolution for alerts.
Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of product ownership, product management, or platform development experience in SaaS or data platforms.
- Proven ability to ship scalable B2B products with measurable user adoption.
- Experience in retail tech, facilities management platforms, or HVAC/R monitoring tools is highly desirable.
- Strong user empathy and ability to balance technical and business goals.
- Skilled in Agile methodologies, backlog grooming, stakeholder communication.
- Familiarity with data analytics, dashboard tools, or monitoring platforms preferred.
Training and Development
RDM is committed to employee development. Training will be provided, and competency will be assessed in line with company training procedures. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in ongoing learning and development.
Working hours
Monday to Friday 8.30 – 5pm core hours with an hour’s lunch. There is some flexibility available. 30 holidays per annum including bank holidays.
