At Resource Data Management (RDM), we’re proud to be a technology-driven company at the forefront of HVAC and refrigeration control systems. With a strong legacy in innovation and a growing global footprint, including our manufacturing site in Taiwan and partnerships with 3rd-party manufacturers. We are now looking to strengthen our product development leadership by hiring a dynamic Lead Hardware Engineer.
Role Overview
We are seeking a vibrant and entrepreneurial Lead Hardware Engineer to lead our multidisciplinary hardware design team. This team is responsible for the full lifecycle of hardware product development, covering PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and mechanical design, from concept through to manufacturing release. You’ll oversee the creation of robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable hardware solutions that power our global product portfolio. This includes both in-house product designs and the evaluation and specification of 3rd-party devices we integrate into our offerings to support customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of PCB and mechanical design engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and career development.
- Drive the end-to-end design and release of new products to production; managing schematics, PCB layout, mechanical enclosures, thermal considerations, and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) principles.
- Ensure timely and high-quality creation of complete data packs (e.g., BOMs, Gerber files, STEP files, assembly drawings, and test specifications) for all RDM hardware products.
- Collaborate with manufacturing partners in Taiwan and contract manufacturers globally to support smooth NPI (New Product Introduction) and resolve production issues.
- Work closely with Product Management and Embedded Software teams to define hardware requirements and drive product innovation.
- Assess, qualify, and specify 3rd-party devices (e.g., sensors, power supplies, communication modules) for integration into the RDM ecosystem.
- Champion design reviews, rapid prototyping, component selection, EMC and compliance planning, and continuous improvement in hardware design processes.
- Maintain up-to-date awareness of component obsolescence, supply chain risks, and emerging design trends.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in hardware engineering leadership roles, ideally in embedded systems, controls, or industrial electronics.
- Strong background in PCB design including schematic capture, layout (Altium or similar), component selection, high-speed design, signal integrity, and power distribution.
- Solid experience with mechanical design including 3D modelling (e.g., SolidWorks or Fusion 360), enclosure design for electronics, thermal management, and materials selection.
- Knowledge of design for compliance (e.g., EMC, CE, UL, UKCA) and best practices for design verification and validation.
- Strong project and people management capabilities with the ability to balance delivery, innovation, and team development.
- Experience working with offshore manufacturers, understanding the intricacies of design transfer and support.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for solving real-world problems through well-engineered products.
- Familiarity with refrigeration, HVAC, or building automation hardware is a plus.
- Experience with PLM systems and structured product release workflows.
- Understanding of Agile or Lean product development methodologies.
Why Join RDM?
- Be part of a growing, innovation-led business with a global footprint.
- Join a team that values autonomy, creativity, and technical excellence.
- Influence the next generation of RDM control systems.
- Opportunities to shape hardware direction across in-house and outsourced solutions.
- Competitive salary and benefits, including profit share and personal development opportunities.
