We are looking for hardworking and passionate solicitors, trainees and paralegals who want to develop genuine expertise in family law and take an active role in the continued growth of the firm.
The successful candidate will work directly with experienced family lawyers and counsel on a varied caseload of private children and financial remedy matters. Depending on experience, they will have responsibility for complex, high-value and legally significant proceedings.
Based in our NW1 London office, this is a fully in-person, office-based role. The role will include advising clients, preparing applications and court documents, drafting correspondence, preparing witness statements and evidence, reviewing disclosure and large evidential bundles, instructing experts and counsel, preparing cases for hearings and maintaining direct contact with clients throughout proceedings.
Our cases frequently involve allegations of domestic abuse, coercive and controlling behaviour, sexual abuse and other sensitive issues. Candidates must therefore be able to communicate with clients sensitively while maintaining excellent professional judgment and attention to detail.
ABOUT PROUDMANS
Established by award-winning barrister, Dr Charlotte Proudmans, almost one year since our launch, Proudmans has gone from strength to strength, acting in published judgments, groundbreaking cases and matters that have attracted national media attention.
We are a specialist family law firm providing exceptional representation in complex private family law proceedings (representing and advising private clients). Our work includes private children proceedings, domestic abuse and coercive control, allegations of parental alienation, relocation and international children cases, and complex financial remedy proceedings.
We are committed to strategic law reform and pride ourselves on a trauma-informed practice, supporting clients through often emotional and challenging proceedings.
We are a modern, ambitious and trauma-informed practice. We combine specialist solicitors with in-house counsel, enabling us to provide clients with continuity and strategic representation throughout their cases.
SOLICITOR ROLE
We are looking for solicitors, trainees and paralegals who are committed to developing a specialist career in family law and want to play an active role in a new, growing practice.
The successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor in England and Wales with between 0 and 5 years’ PQE. Newly qualified solicitors with strong family law experience during their training are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should have experience of, or a demonstrable interest in, private family law. Experience of private children proceedings, domestic abuse and coercive control, financial remedies, relocation or international children cases would be particularly valuable.
You will need excellent written and oral communication skills, strong legal research and analytical abilities, and the ability to draft clear, accurate and persuasive correspondence, statements and court documents.
You should be highly organised, meticulous and able to manage competing deadlines and substantial volumes of evidence. You must be comfortable taking responsibility for your work and exercising sound professional judgment while knowing when to seek supervision.
The role requires confidence dealing directly with clients and an ability to work sensitively with people experiencing domestic abuse, trauma, relationship breakdown and highly contested family proceedings.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are intellectually curious, proactive and prepared to become immersed in their cases. We want someone who thinks strategically about litigation rather than simply completing individual tasks.
As a growing firm, we are looking for someone who is adaptable, collaborative and interested in contributing to the development of Proudmans as well as their own practice.
A strong academic background and previous experience in a specialist family law practice are desirable but will be considered alongside the candidate's overall experience, ability and potential.
Above all, candidates must demonstrate a genuine and sustained commitment to family law, exceptional client care and the highest professional standards.
TRAINING CONTRACT / PARALEGAL ROLES
Candidates should have a strong academic background and a law degree, conversion qualification or equivalent legal education. Those undertaking or having completed the SQE, LPC or Bar course are particularly welcome to apply.
Previous paralegal or family law experience is desirable. We are prepared to invest in an outstanding candidate who demonstrates intellectual ability, excellent judgment and a genuine commitment to family law.
