We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Admissions & Disposition Clerk to work on-site at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

This role will be working within the Patient Administration Department providing administrative and admissions support.

Location: Naval Medical Center Portsmouth - Portsmouth, VA

Duty Hours: Monday - Friday between 0700-1530

Job Responsibilities:

  • Receives and screens telephone calls; receives walk-in patients; responds to various general and routine medical, personnel and administrative inquiries, and escorts patients as necessary.
  • Creates preadmission charts and completes the process in the electronic medical record or government systems in accordance with regulation and local policy and procedure.
  • Provides advance directives, third party liability documentation, and other forms for patient to complete for inclusion into inpatient medical record.
  • Tracks and reports daily patient movement, bed status and ward transfers.
  • Corrects admission errors.
  • Assists in coordinating patient transfers from other wards or to outside facilities.
  • Tracks and reports all casualty reports and notifications in accordance with Government policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree/Education: High School degree / GED
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Experience: Possess a minimum of two (2) years Office Automation/Front Desk Clerk, with at least one (1) year in a medical or hospital environment.
  • Capable of typing 60 words per minute and well versed in the operation of a wide range of dictating equipment and software.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of standard medical facility/office rules, regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other guidelines relating to completing tasks.

This knowledge is usually attained through extensive, increasingly difficult, and practical experience and training in a medical office or similar setting.

Physical Demands & Additional Information:

  • Must pass TB Test
  • Subject to a background/security investigation and pre-employment drug screening
  • Willingness to comply with DHA vaccination requirements.
  • Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen per contract requirements.
