This role is part of the London based International Portfolio Management team working closely with our Bermuda reinsurance platform ResRe, but with the opportunity to work with our M&A and reinsurance team (focussing on US, UK, European and Asian markets). A key member of the Portfolio Management team, the role holder is responsible for the management of investment portfolios backing Resolution’s reinsurance business, aiming to optimise portfolios by taking into consideration ALM, liquidity, capital and risk constraints.

Leveraging relationships with external third‑party investment management partners, the role holder will be responsible for developing the portfolio strategy and design, negotiating and establishing investment guidelines and working closely with those managers and internal asset specialists to execute the portfolio strategy and achieve overall investment objectives in a coherent manner. The role holder will also be expected to take a leading role in the monitoring and management of ALM across all ResRe investment portfolios. Some travel may be required.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain analysis to support the periodic development and refresh of strategic asset allocations for external reinsurance portfolios, including ALM, liquidity, capital and risk constraints.
  • Develop guidance for external investment managers on how portfolios should be deployed across a broad range of investment strategies.
  • Work upfront with external investment managers in the design of mandate investment guidelines.
  • Take a leading role in the ALM management and reporting across all ResRe investment portfolios.
  • Collaborate with other portfolio managers to discuss ALM rebalancing opportunities and work with Derivatives Structuring SMEs to review and optimize ALM/FX hedging strategies.
  • Coordinate closely with other functions in the development and execution of risk management solutions to control balance sheet risks within reinsurance transactions, including interest rate and FX hedging, but also extending to other balance sheet solutions e.g. repack solutions, option strategies, funding solutions, asset structuring etc.
  • Maintain oversight of asset rotation into the range of asset classes identified within the strategic asset allocation, and propose adjustments based on deployment speed and achieved yields.
  • Collaborate with Asset Oversight Specialists to discuss market themes and consider potential deployment adjustments.
  • Coordinate closely with actuarial and finance functions on the continued evolution of the reinsurance business, including regular reviews of portfolio performance, asset manager performance, ALM, analysis of hedge effectiveness, and other ad hoc requests.
  • Engage with other relevant internal stakeholders, including Risk, to carefully explain performance to maintain senior buy‑in, and to validate adherence to corporate risk framework and other relevant transaction objectives/constraints.
  • Support annual regulatory reporting.
  • Keep abreast of the latest market developments.
  • Actively promote and uphold the values of the company.

Your Characteristics
  • Minimum 8yrs experience in an investment bank, investment manager, insurance company, or other similar role.
  • Numerical degree from a reputable university.
  • Knowledge of ALM and good understanding of derivatives used for ALM hedging strategies required.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance transactions preferred.
  • Experience of Bermuda insurance regulatory framework preferred.
  • Experience of other regulatory environments helpful, in particular Solvency II.
  • Experience of investing in private and securitised credit preferred.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Team oriented approach to sharing workload and leverage skill sets.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to cope with changing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to present results to a non‑technical audience.
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor and take initiative to learn new things.
