This role requires someone with a practical manufacturing background, ideally with experience or understanding of press shops, press tooling, industrial power presses, plant, equipment and basic maintenance coordination. The role also carries responsibility for supporting raw material control, steel supplier call-offs, quality standards, productivity improvements, training needs and facilities-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership
    • Liaise with the Operations Manager and Production Controller to ensure the needs of the business are met.
    • Support the overall running of the factory and warehouse operations.
    • Oversee manufacturing processes and systems to ensure they operate safely, efficiently and effectively.
    • Assist press setters, warehouse staff and factory personnel where needed to ensure work can be completed safely and effectively.
    • Coordinate adequate personnel levels during holiday, sickness and absence cover.
    • Ensure required training needs are identified and communicated for factory and warehouse personnel.
    • Work with colleagues at all levels of the business to maintain effective daily operations.
  • Press Tooling, Plant and Equipment
    • Facilitate the setting and operation of plant, press tools and equipment.
    • Support press setters with tooling, plant and equipment requirements.
    • Ensure machinery, press tooling and equipment are operated in a safe and proper manner.
    • Ensure calibrations are carried out when required.
    • Identify and report defects, faults or maintenance requirements.
    • Support the safe and effective use of industrial power presses and associated equipment.
  • Maintenance and Facilities
    • Organise the repair and maintenance of plant, equipment and premises as required.
    • Support routine maintenance activity across the factory and warehouse areas.
    • Coordinate basic facilities repairs and premises-related issues where required.
    • Ensure the factory and warehouse areas are maintained in a safe, tidy and operational condition.
    • Respond to call-outs in the event of security or fire alarm activation where required.
  • Quality, Compliance and Audit Support
    • Maintain and adhere to company quality standards and procedures, including ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 requirements.
    • Work with internal and external quality auditors when assessing the company management system.
    • Complete relevant actions or observations raised from audits.
    • Investigate and complete PDRs to satisfactory resolution.
    • Ensure factory and warehouse activities comply with current legislation, company standards and safe working practices.
  • Continuous Improvement and Product Support
    • Identify and support productivity and efficiency improvements.
    • Carry out improvements where appropriate to support safer and more effective working practices.
    • Support product development activity as and when required.
    • Promote a practical, problem-solving approach across manufacturing and warehouse operations.
