Main purpose of the role: The Team Leader plays a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care within the service while providing day-to-day leadership and guidance to the staff team. Working closely with the Deputy Manager and Registered Manager, you will lead shifts, support and mentor Residential Support Workers, and help ensure that individuals receive consistent, safe, and dignified care. You will act as a positive role model, supporting best practice, professional standards, and a calm, supportive environment. This is a rewarding but responsible role that requires strong interpersonal skills, emotional resilience, sound judgement, and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for the people we support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead shifts effectively, acting as the senior member of staff on duty when required
  • Provide guidance, support, and direction to Residential Support Workers
  • Ensure safe staffing practices and effective handovers between shifts
  • Support new staff during induction and act as a role model in practice
  • Escalate concerns appropriately to the Deputy Manager or Registered Manager

Care & Support

  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred care that promotes dignity, independence, and wellbeing
  • Support individuals with activities of daily living, personal care, health needs, and social inclusion
  • Encourage choice, independence, and involvement in everyday decision-making
  • Promote meaningful activities within the service and the wider community
  • Monitor individuals’ wellbeing and respond appropriately to changes

Safeguarding & Professional Practice

  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture and act promptly on any concerns
  • Ensure care plans, risk assessments, and support strategies are followed consistently
  • Support staff to manage complex or challenging situations calmly and professionally
  • Maintain clear professional boundaries and model best practice
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times

Recording & Accountability

  • Complete accurate, timely, and professional records and reports
  • Contribute to care planning, reviews, and internal monitoring processes
  • Ensure daily records and handovers are completed to a high standard
  • Support compliance with organisational policies and regulatory requirements

Partnership & Development

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, advocates, healthcare professionals, and other partners
  • Support adults in maintaining meaningful relationships and social connections where appropriate
  • Undertake mandatory and ongoing professional development and support team members to do the same

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Promote a safe, clean, and welcoming living environment
  • Follow health and safety procedures, including fire safety and infection control
  • Report incidents, accidents, hazards, or faulty equipment promptly
  • Administer medication only in line with training and policy

Other Duties

  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusive practice
  • Drive company vehicles where required and in line with policy (if applicable)
  • Undertake additional duties reasonably required to support the safe and effective running of the service
  • Model the organisation’s values and embed them in daily practice

Qualifications

  • Essential: Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), Enhanced DBS suitable for working with vulnerable adults
  • Desirable: Working towards or willingness to undertake a Level 5 leadership qualification, Full UK driving licence

Experience

  • Essential: Experience working in a residential or supported living environment, Experience supporting adults with care and support needs
  • Desirable: Previous Team Leader or senior support role, Experience supporting individuals with complex needs

  • Essential: Strong communication and leadership skills, Calm, resilient, and confident in decision-making, Ability to lead shifts and support staff effectively, Professional, reliable, and flexible approach
  • Desirable: Experience mentoring or supervising staff

Knowledge
