An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Tax Manager – Private Client to join the specialist tax team of a highly regarded and growing accountancy practice in Crawley.
This is a varied position where you will manage your own portfolio while working closely with experienced Tax Partners and Directors on more complex private client advisory projects.
The role could suit an established Tax Manager, or someone with a strong private client compliance background who is now keen to gain greater exposure to advisory work and more complex tax planning.
Previous accountancy practice experience is preferred, although the firm is prepared to consider individuals with the right depth of private client tax knowledge and experience.
There is also genuine flexibility around working arrangements, and part-time hours can be considered and negotiated for the right candidate.
The role will include
- Managing your own portfolio of private clients.
- Working on a varied range of private client tax advisory projects.
- Preparing and reviewing annual tax returns and associated tax advice.
- Attending client meetings and developing strong, trusted relationships.
- Preparing technical analysis, reports and written tax advice.
- Identifying and resolving technical tax issues, escalating more complex matters where appropriate.
- Working closely with Tax Partners, Directors and other specialists across the firm.
- Balancing ongoing compliance responsibilities with increasingly complex advisory work.
- Supporting the wider team and contributing technical knowledge where required.
The advisory work will include
- Capital Gains Tax planning and advice, including the sale of businesses.
Inheritance Tax planning , including the latest rules affecting pensions, business assets and agricultural assets.
- Advising on structures for investment companies and family businesses .
- Preparing and reviewing complex tax calculations and returns.
- Advising on trust taxation and 10-year charges .
- Tax planning for high-net-worth individuals, families and trusts.
- Wider private client tax planning and advisory projects.
- To apply for this role, you will need the following skills and experience:
You will need proven experience within Private Client Tax, with a strong understanding of areas such as Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, trusts and estate planning.
Ideally, you will also have
- Previous accountancy practice experience – preferred.
- Experience managing a portfolio of private clients.
- A background dealing with high-net-worth individuals, families and/or trusts.
- Experience across both tax compliance and advisory work, although candidates with a predominantly compliance-based background who are keen to develop their advisory expertise are encouraged to apply.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with the confidence to identify and resolve tax issues.
- Excellent client-facing and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly and professionally.
- CTA qualification would be advantageous, although ATT, ACA or ACCA-qualified candidates with strong relevant private client tax experience will also be considered.
