SCADA Engineer in Kings Langley

RES is seeking a SCADA Engineer to join the Group Engineering Industrial Control & SCADA (IC&S) team. The SCADA Engineer is responsible for providing expert guidance and hands-on engineering support for the design, implementation, integration, and maintenance of SCADA systems and associated communications infrastructure across onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, energy storage (BESS), transmission & distribution, and green hydrogen projects. The role covers the end-to-end SCADA lifecycle, including architecture definition, detailed design, OEM and vendor integration, site communications, and support through commissioning and handover.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary internal teams, clients, and suppliers to deliver safe, secure, robust, and supportable SCADA solutions.

• Define SCADA system requirements and integration scope with project stakeholders.
• Lead and contribute to SCADA architecture design (servers, controllers, HMIs, networks).
• Provide technical oversight of OEM and third-party system integration.
• Review and approve SCADA engineering deliverables in line with RES standards.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and handover activities.
• Act as a technical escalation point for SCADA operational issues.
• Contribute to development and continuous improvement of Group SCADA standards, tools, and templates.

• Strong experience in industrial SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of servers, controllers, and HMIs for industrial environments.
• Understanding of control systems, substations, electrical equipment, and protection interfaces.
• Experience with site communications infrastructure, including Ethernet and fibre optic networks.
• Industrial networking hardware and network security concepts.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as OPC, Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose issues and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Comfortable working within multidisciplinary and international teams, contributing effectively across engineering, project delivery, and operational functions.
• Professional communication skills, with the confidence to engage clearly and respectfully with customers, suppliers, OEMs, and internal stakeholders.
• Clear written and spoken English is essential; additional languages (e.g. Spanish, French, or Chinese) are advantageous.
• A proactive mindset with a strong focus on safety, quality, and cyber secure design.
• Willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute to the continuous improvement of SCADA engineering practices.

• Strong experience in industrial automation or SCADA engineering.

• Bachelor’s degree in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer/Software Engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent industry experience will be considered in place of formal qualifications.
