The position involves reporting to the Senior Management Accountant of the business unit. The Finance Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and delivery of the management accounts of the Asset Management (AM) team for Northern Europe. The ideal candidate will have strong financial acumen, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and deadlines.
This role will work alongside the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Services Finance team members to ensure knowledge is shared and processes are aligned to meet the needs of key stakeholders. This role is offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis.
Accountabilities:
- Preparation of periodic financial reporting and analysis packages for the team on a timely and accurate basis.
- Ensuring that invoicing for AM contracts is correct and up to date.
- Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.
- Error Management activities within the finance system.
- Assist with the year-end audit and liaising with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Assisting with establishing new finance processes in the newly introduced ERP system.
- Supporting regular queries from the Asset Managers.
- Executing additional tasks to meet changing business needs and departmental objectives.
Knowledge:
- Strong aptitude for accounting.
Skills:
- Strong Microsoft Excel and accountancy system skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Proactive, ‘can do’ attitude, with a focus on continuous improvement of reporting and analysis.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to communicate with external parties.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and take initiative when needed.
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to articulate financial information to non-finance specialists.
Experience:
- Experience of monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounting routines within a commercial organisation.
- Experience of using an ERP system (use of Agresso and IFS a distinct advantage but not essential).
- Experience in communicating with non-financial internal stakeholders would be beneficial.
- Preparation of statutory financial statements would be a distinct advantage but not essential.
Qualifications:
- Studying ACA/ACCA/CIMA.
- AAT qualified/part qualified.
- Degree or the equivalent in a finance discipline.
