Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct grid connection feasibility studies for new sites and provide grid input into new site search activities.
  • Identify optimum grid connection solutions, considering operational factors such as grid‑use of system charging, loss adjustments, and grid constraints or curtailment.
  • Secure grid connection agreements (or modifications) aligned with project strategy and negotiate technical requirements.
  • Track grid liabilities, advise on connection‑agreement strategies to manage risk exposure, and prepare executive‑approval memos.
  • Manage the IDE process in contestable connection works, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and interacting with the DNO for design approval.
  • Deliver grid compliance (EON, ION, FON) to enable timely energisation and operation.
  • Provide technical support during detailed design and construction, ensuring grid‑code compliance.
  • Support operating projects through the Support Services team for grid troubleshooting and third‑party adoption.
  • Offer peer review and expert advice to project‑team Grid Engineers.
  • Lead the implementation of new processes and represent the business in industry forums.

Organisational Context

  • Line‑managed by a Project Manager in one of the wind, solar or storage development teams.
  • Reports to a New Sites Manager or Development Project Manager during pre‑consent phases, a Project Manager in the post‑consent phase, and a Construction Project Manager during construction.
  • Procures specialist services internally or externally for detailed electrical design and grid studies.
  • Interfaces with the Electrical Design Engineer and SCADA Engineer during detailed design and construction.

Knowledge & Expertise

  • Expert knowledge of power systems up to 33 kV and above in a power‑generation environment.
  • Expert knowledge of grid connection requirements and commercial policies.
  • Strong understanding of commercial project requirements and priorities.

Skills

  • Drive innovative, cost‑effective or timely grid connection solutions and negotiate with external grid companies.
  • Commercial awareness of contract compliance, cost control, and relative value of engineering solutions.
  • Project planning and management to align grid milestones with wider project delivery.
  • Presentation skills to technical and non‑technical audiences (written and verbal).
  • Attention to detail during preparation and review of design deliverables.
  • Provide empathetic expert support and advice to UK & K project Grid Engineers.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience performing at mentor/thought‑leader level in the installation, testing, commissioning and operation of multiple power‑generation systems and other electrical engineering works.

Qualifications

  • Degree, HND, or HNC in Electrical Engineering or a related subject.
