The position RES currently provides High Voltage Operations and Maintenance (HV O&M) Services to renewable energy assets in the UK & Ireland. Due to increased demand from our clients, we are seeking an HV Senior Authorised Person (33kV) to grow and improve this service.
The SAP is a site-based role performing Operation & Maintenance duties on utility-scale solar/wind and battery storage sites and home/office working for other duties. Candidate must currently hold, or have recently held, 11 - 33kV SAP status. Experience operating and maintaining utility-scale renewable sites/equipment or DNO assets would be desirable. You will need to be located near/travel to operational plants and have a full driving licence. This is a permanent role and will require availability for weekend and on-call duties, including overnight callouts.
Accountabilities
- Always adherence to health and safety requirements and help to maintain and improve safety standards
- Achieve and maintain Senior Authorised Person status
- Carry out basic protection testing on HV related equipment; complex protection relay testing is desirable
- Undertaking troubleshooting and fault-finding on RES controlled plant/equipment
- Carrying out inductions for sub-contractors and deliver Competent Person Training
- Induct and manage in-house staff and sub-contractors, ensure their safe working, and undertake quality checks on their work
- Keeping in close communication with the O&M office
- Liaising with external stakeholders such as DNO and asset owner
- Reacting to emergencies, site outages and changing circumstances
- Occasionally working away from home for training courses or to cover RES controlled sites in other geographical areas where required
- Other duties commensurate with the role
Become fully conversant and make sure that all works are undertaken in accordance with the RES Electrical & Mechanical Safety Rules and Safety Rule Instructions, this will include but is not limited to:
- Preparing, issuing and cancelling safety documents
- Carrying out switching, isolation and earthing duties
- Acting as Control Engineer
- Preparing switching schedules
- Managing the interface between system boundaries with site and DNO as required
- Producing and reviewing method statements and risk assessments
- Producing maintenance plans for HV equipment
- Maintaining the asset register
- Management and/or delivery of planned and unplanned maintenance activities on electrical equipment
- Producing final reports
Knowledge
Essential:
- HV Safe Systems of Work
- Knowledge of the key legislation underpinning UK high voltage electrical asset operation and maintenance
- Detailed knowledge of UK industry HV electrical safety rules
- Detailed knowledge of HV equipment
- HV maintenance practices including HSG230
Desirable:
- Knowledge of solar and Wind farm assets
- Earthing system installation and test
- Protection system installation and test
Skills
Essential:
- Strong approach to safe working practices
- Able to operate and maintain various types of HV plant/equipment
- Excellent communication skills
- Good people skills
- Ability to coordinate multiple activities whilst ensuring safety and quality are maintained
- Ability to identify problems, conduct analysis and develop solutions

Qualifications
Essential:
- Full UK driving licence
- Previously held SAP authorisation under high voltage electrical safety rules
- Electrical Engineering HND or equivalent industry experience
- IOSH Managing Safely or CITB SMSTS or equivalent
Desirable:
- Holds or previously held SAP authorisations under DNO Safety Rules
