Responsibilities include financial and commercial decisions of a vision-driven company at the forefront of the transition to zero carbon energy. It is an opportunity to build or enhance the full range of competencies needed for a financial and/or commercial career in renewable energy. It requires excellent numeracy and modelling ability, the diligence to deliver timely and accurate analysis, the curiosity to extract insight, and the ability to find solutions to commercial challenges. It will appeal to recent graduates or early-career professionals with a passion for renewable energy and a desire to make a positive impact on the world.

Deliver accurate and timely financial and commercial analysis to enable good decision making:

  • Own discrete analysis packages
  • Provide commercial support across RES' UK&I activities

Accountabilities:

  • Financial analysis – Producing, operating and auditing financial models for project, asset & company valuations (Excel-based or using RES' proprietary Global Economic Model system). Maintaining and challenging the assumptions used in financial modelling.
  • Transactions (sales, acquisitions, etc.) – Supporting due diligence and negotiation for M&A transactions and other contracts, e.g., value and risk analysis, internal due diligence, information memorandum preparation, due diligence/Q&A process, contract analysis. Managing discrete work packages such as due diligence Q&A process.
  • Routes to market – Analysing routes to market (wholesale power prices, PPAs, CPPAs, CfDs, CM, ancillary services, other revenues) and supporting auction bidding/tendering and negotiation of contracts, e.g., PPAs. Owning discrete work packages.
  • Business strategies – Researching and producing discrete analysis packages on market, strategic and competitor topics to support business strategy production.
  • Investor relationships – Tracking and analysing renewable investors and supporting relationship management.
  • Internal relationships – Develop and manage internal stakeholder relationships beyond the commercial team (e.g., development team, legal team) to enable effective delivery of own responsibilities.
  • Other opportunities and analysis – Providing strategic/commercial input on Thrive (cost reduction) and other value-adding initiatives. Providing commercial analysis for new sites, life extension, repowering, construction, asset management, operations, acquisition and/or new business opportunities.
  • Policy and regulation – Analysing and briefing on the impact of key policy developments and options.
  • Processes – Ensuring excellence in the implementation of team processes.

Desirable knowledge:

  • Understanding of the electricity market in the UK and Ireland.
  • Appreciation of the different renewable technologies and business models.

Skills:

  • Modelling and analysis – Excellent numeracy and analytic ability along with attention to detail.
  • Financial concepts – Strong understanding of financial concepts, e.g., discounted cash-flow models.
  • Excel/modelling – Strong Excel/modelling skills, preferably with experience/coursework in financial modelling.
  • Communication – Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Organisation – Excellent organisational skills to meet demanding timescales on several simultaneous activities.

Experience:

  • Financial modelling and other analysis – Experience or extensive coursework using analytical techniques, discounted cashflow modelling and valuations.
  • Transactions – Desirable to have experience analysing value and risk in renewable transactions.
  • Routes to market – Desirable to have experience analysing renewable and energy storage routes to market in GB & Ireland.
  • Project management – Desirable to have experience in project management & delivering on multiple competing deadlines.

Educated to at least degree level in a numerate or business subject.
