Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe, respectful, and positive workplace.
  • Lead and allocate tasks fairly across the night team; plan breaks and workload to maintain performance and efficiency.
  • Manage rotas and annual leave to ensure adequate staffing, especially during busy periods and stock counts.
  • Oversee training and onboarding, ensuring completion of H&S and Food Safety modules within one week and full rotation through all departments within three months.
  • Ensure that by the end of the team members' 6-month probation they must be capable of working independently in all departments.
  • Be first point of contact for picking team, managing their requests and issues effectively, escalating to your line manager when required.
  • Act as main contact for night operations, maintaining clear communication with Production, Sales, Procurement, and Transport teams, including effective end-of-shift handovers.
  • Notify Sales via the Ops group regarding oysters with 7+ days shelf life to maximise sales opportunities.

Operations & Product Control

  • Oversee and coordinate the daily activities of the night team across all four departments (Oysters, Freezer, Deli, Shellfish).
  • Make informed decisions regarding transport routes, including when to dispatch or hold drivers and how to manage shortages effectively.
  • Check and sign off all routes before dispatch to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Be accountable for the smooth operation of route 170 and other key delivery routes.
  • Investigate and address picking errors, implementing proactive measures to reduce future occurrences.
  • Maintain strict quality control across all product lines, ensuring only top-quality goods are dispatched.
  • Monitor Goods In (especially non-fresh fish and lobsters) for quality and quantity, logging shortages or poor quality on the system and raising credits where necessary.
  • Manage and review the Watch List as required, ensuring appropriate action is taken.

Stock Management

  • Manage stock rotation (FIFO) and maintain a clean, tidy, and organised environment in all storage areas.
  • Create and maintain a system in the freezers where all products are organised in a logical way where all team members can efficiently locate needed stock at all times.
  • Plan and coordinate end-of-month stock takes, ensuring accuracy and efficient rota planning to minimise overtime.
  • Continuously seek to improve processes to enhance efficiency and profitability.

Administration & Reporting

  • Oversee the Night Admin Assistant, ensuring all orders, invoices, and shortages are processed accurately.
  • Cover administrative duties during absence or holidays when required.
  • Ensure all oyster shortages are managed, recorded, and communicated to Sales Team so they can inform customers where appropriate.
  • Run and analyse weekly reports on picking errors, credit notes, and discrepancies, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all Health & Safety and Food Safety standards are met at all times.
  • Ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly schedules (cleaning, H&S records) are completed and filed on time.
  • Ensure crab and lobster tanks are regularly monitored and maintained to required hygiene standards. Organise and rotate the team to clean one tank every one to two days, ensuring all eight tanks are serviced on a consistent, scheduled basis.
  • Maintain records and ensure the depot is always audit-ready for external inspections (e.g., SALSA).

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of stock control, food safety, and H&S.
  • Strong attention to detail, good IT skills and confident using a range of systems.
  • Ability to make sound operational decisions under pressure.
  • Hands-on approach with a focus on teamwork, accuracy, and efficiency.
