Compliance Manager | Hampshire (Some potential travel to Far East & Europe) | £60k (c) + Benefits

Build it your way, from the ground up: This is a brand new role and the Compliance Manager will need to create the compliance framework from scratch and that will be the ultimate priority in the first few months.
Our client is a well-known name in UK electrical retail. They support hundreds of independent stores across the country and are growing fast. A big part of that growth is their own exclusive ranges of home appliances, sourced directly from manufacturers in the Far East and Europe.

Key responsibilities:

  • Reviewing current arrangements and identifying gaps and risks
  • Designing an end-to-end product approval framework, from specification through testing and sampling to final sign-off
  • Setting up processes for testing, certification and regulatory compliance, and instructing accredited labs
  • Making sure technical files, Declarations of Conformity and certification are complete, accurate and centrally controlled
  • Reviewing manuals, packaging, labelling and safety information against UK requirements
  • Prepared to visit factories in the Far East to carry out audits, review product and sign off samples before production
  • Setting up pre-shipment inspection, change control and ongoing quality checks
  • Creating clear reporting and escalation routes for technical and compliance risks
  • Recommending how the function should be structured and resourced for the future

After that, you’ll be the go-to compliance expert across the business. You’ll support Buying, Product Development, Commercial and Supply Chain, run post-market surveillance, and keep the business ahead of changing legislation.

This is a hands‑on role with real authority. You’ll set the strategy, be the in‑house expert and do the detailed work yourself. You’ll have budget for testing and audits, and if a product isn’t right you’ll have the backing to delay a launch.

What experience we are looking for: (Essential)

  • Compliance of electrical or electronic products: LVD, EMC, UKCA/CE and RoHS are the core of the role. Someone who has only done food, cosmetics or textiles would be starting from zero.
  • Owning technical files and managing test labs: this is the day‑to‑day work.
  • Working with overseas factories, ideally in Asia: the Schedule of Deliverables includes Far East sample sign‑off within the first three months.
  • Having built or substantially improved a process, not just followed one: this is what makes it a greenfield role, and it matters more than any single regulation.

Why apply?

  • A greenfield role where you shape the function from day one
  • Visibility and influence at senior level
  • A growing, ambitious business that’s investing in quality
  • Flexibility on contract type for the right person we would consider a FTC or a Permanent hire.

It's worth knowing this role is NOT suited to someone who : Wants to manage a team straight away or would rather maintain an existing system than build one.
