Salary: £29,500 per annum

Repton School is seeking a Painter and Decorator to maintain, repair and refurbish the school buildings at both sites. The role may evolve over time and may involve weekend coverage on a rota basis. All duties must be carried out efficiently, effectively, within deadlines and to standards acceptable to the School’s management team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Carry out decorations and associated repairs (ceilings, walls, floors, woodwork, fittings, etc., excluding electrical items).
  • Assist colleagues in other trades as required.
  • Work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure work meets the correct standard and complies with relevant codes of practice, regulations, and health and safety requirements.
  • Decorate to a high standard, including correct preparation, product selection and application.
  • Conduct general 'making good' preparation for decorating to achieve a high-quality finish.
  • Perform general repair work such as basic carpentry, basic plaster repairs, and other minor tasks as needed.
  • Perform Artex repairs as necessary.
  • Work flexibly to adapt to the changing requirements and needs of the School.
Health and Safety
  • Monitor and report any health and safety issues identified during visits to allocated areas or any other school area, and ensure relevant action is taken.
  • Remain up-to-date with all appropriate practices and regulatory requirements within allocated areas of responsibility and undertake duties in line with established School practices and protocols.
  • Undertake appropriate training to keep skills current and proportionate to the first-class service required for this role.
  • Carry out duties safely and report any unsafe conditions to the Maintenance Supervisor; read and understand the School Health and Safety Policy.
Education and Qualifications
  • City and Guilds Level 2 (or equivalent) in Painter and Decorating, or relevant time-served qualification.
  • Full clean driving licence.

  • Experience working within a historic environment is desirable.
  • Excellent time-management and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, respecting diverse experiences and backgrounds.
  • Professional, polite and friendly when interacting with pupils and colleagues.
