Role overview: We are looking for a motivated Software Developer Intern to join our Defence and Security team for a Summer Internship. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on real-world projects that support national security. You will collaborate with experienced developers, contribute to meaningful software solutions, and develop your technical skills in a supportive environment. This is a Bristol-based role beginning in June/July 2026.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with coding and debugging tasks, learning how to write and maintain code and troubleshoot software issues.
- Support testing and quality assurance activities, including participating in code reviews and helping to ensure code quality.
- Work alongside senior developers and stakeholders to understand requirements and help translate them into functional code.
- Contribute to documentation by helping to maintain clear and accurate records of code, systems, and processes.
- Learn and apply new technologies, tools, and development practices, proactively developing your technical skillset.
- Assist with database-related tasks, including working with tables, views, and stored procedures.
- Support the implementation of security measures and learn how to safeguard sensitive data in line with standards.
About the Candidate:
- Currently studying a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, and on track for a 2:1 or above.
- Initial exposure to programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Basic understanding of relational database concepts, with some exposure to SQL, PL/SQL, or T-SQL.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to learn.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a team environment, following guidance and contributing to group tasks.
Eligibility: Must be eligible for UK Security Check clearance.
