Graduate Software Developer – Shield Reply are specialists in the Defence and Security sector, driving technology-led transformational change with the design, delivery and management of Oracle cloud-based services and APEX solutions. We are looking for a talented Junior Software Developer to join our Defence and Security team. In this role, you will develop and maintain applications that meet our customers' needs. You will work on cutting-edge projects, collaborate with a dynamic team, and contribute to software solutions that support national security. We provide comprehensive Oracle training and support to help you develop your skills. If you are enthusiastic about contributing to national security through technology, we encourage you to apply. This is a Bristol-based role with a September 2026 start date which will involve hybrid working and occasional travelling to our clients' sites.
Responsibilities
- Write and maintain code, troubleshoot software issues, and fix bugs
- Participate in code reviews, conduct tests to ensure code quality, and contribute to quality assurance activities
- Work closely with senior developers and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into functional code
- Ensure that all code is well-documented and maintain documentation for existing systems and processes
- Continuously improve coding skills, stay updated with industry trends, and be proactive in learning new technologies and tools
- Create and maintain database objects such as tables, views, and stored procedures
- Implement security measures to safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance with security standards
About the candidate
- A Bachelor's degree (2.1 or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Some understanding of relational database design and some experience with one or more of SQL, PL/SQL or T-SQL languages
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment, following instructions and contributing to group projects
- Must be eligible for UK Security Check clearance
