We are looking for a motivated Software Developer Intern to join our Defence and Security team for a Summer Internship. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience working on real‑world projects that support national security. You will collaborate with experienced developers, contribute to meaningful software solutions, and develop your technical skills in a supportive environment. This is a Bristol-based role beginning in June/July 2026.
Responsibilities
- Assist with coding and debugging tasks, learning how to write and maintain code and troubleshoot software issues.
- Support testing and quality assurance activities, including participating in code reviews and helping to ensure code quality.
- Work alongside senior developers and stakeholders to understand requirements and help translate them into functional code.
- Contribute to documentation by helping to maintain clear and accurate records of code, systems, and processes.
- Learn and apply new technologies, tools, and development practices, proactively developing your technical skillset.
- Assist with database‑related tasks, including working with tables, views, and stored procedures.
- Support the implementation of security measures and learn how to safeguard sensitive data in line with standards.
About the Candidate
- Currently studying a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, and on track for a 2:1 or above.
- Basic understanding of relational database concepts, with some exposure to SQL, PL/SQL, or T‑SQL.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a willingness to learn.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a team environment, following guidance and contributing to group tasks.
Eligibility: Must be eligible for UK Security Check clearance.
