The Operations and Management Graduate Role

You will start your career with us as a Service Team Leader, where you will be responsible for managing a team of Customer Delivery Representatives, reporting directly to the Service Centre Manager. You will ensure the delivery of Key KPIs, including Health and Safety, State of Service, Vehicle Maintenance, and Productivity. The position entails weekly planning of the routes to ensure maximum customer-facing time and minimise driving time. Daily debriefing of direct reports to ensure they have completed the planned works and re-plan as necessary to maximise customer satisfaction.

The Principle Duties and Responsibilities of the Role Include:

  • Customer service: Provide clarity on the business expectations of customer service for drivers, ensuring these standards are achieved. Assist various members of the service management team, whilst coordinating customer service requests and other related information to ensure customer service expectations are achieved.
  • Team work: Work alongside the Service Centre Manager, Service Manager and Other Service Team Leaders to deliver the required company objectives for the branch.
  • Decision making: Manage performance to ensure the CDR is working their contracted hours, fulfilling their daily calls and holding to account any performance issues. Contribute to route solutions for new customer service requirements. Able to identify sub-standard customer service, route deficiencies or CDR performance to line management.
  • Communications: Provide support to service centre management team providing customer service data from the CDR. Support and communicate business requirements to the CDR, ensuring all CDRs are clear on objectives and tasks.
  • Organising: Plan time to ensure that the service operation runs efficiently to support customer expectations. Ensure that all CDRs operate in an efficient and effective manner. Able to support and coordinate CDR resources whilst developing and managing CDRs based at the Service Centre to ensure that the required Company standards are achieved. Pro-actively review CDR and vehicle requirements to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Health & Safety / Environmental Policies: Adhere to Company Health and Safety and environmental policies and obligations.

In addition to your role as a Service Team Leader, you will be included in Graduate Development Days, working alongside other graduates on project work and gaining exposure to other parts of the business. You will also be able to take part in the Aspiring Development Program.

After the first 12 - 24 months: Now that you’ve gained a broad understanding of the operational side of the business, you will decide which position you would like to potentially move into next. You may have the chance to move into:

  • Field Account Manager - you will be responsible for sales in a certain patch area.
  • Indoor Sales/Customer Relations Team Leader - leading a team of indoor sales colleagues.
  • Regional Account Manager - supporting our Key Account Customers.
  • You can also remain as Service Team Leader.

24+ Months: After two years, you will be ready to take on more senior positions such as Sales Team Leader, Key Account Manager, Branch Manager, Central Technical, or roles in Area Central Support. With structured career progression, we ensure you are fully prepared to take your next career steps within the company.

Sales and Management Graduate Requirements:

  • A minimum 2.2 degree in BSc/BA in any subject (business-related, transport, logistics, supply chain or management disciplines preferred but not necessary).
  • A full UK driving licence or be working towards this.
  • Target-driven, ambitious and self-motivated.
  • Comfortable working out in the field dealing with customers face-to-face.
  • Want to work with people and provide excellent customer service.
  • A desire to work hard and have fun.
