Our patented touch trigger probe technology was first employed to measure intricate components for Concorde engines; today our products are the benchmark in high precision engineering for manufacturing hundreds of everyday items like mobile phones and laptops through to car and aircraft parts.

A position has arisen for a Sustainment Engineering Lead with an electronics background, to take responsibility for a range of Current Products. The role owns product reliability, test strategy, cost of quality, and obsolescence management while working closely with manufacturing, procurement, product management & Renishaw subsidiaries.

Core Responsibilities
  • Product Ownership β€” Act as the primary electronics owner for the Machine Tool Current Products line, accountable for product performance, reliability, and ongoing engineering changes.
  • Customer Return Investigations β€” Oversee technical investigations into customer returns and field failures; define root cause, corrective actions, and preventive measures; ensure timely communication with service and customers.
  • Continuous Improvement Upgrades β€” Identify, scope, and deliver electronics upgrades that improve product performance and manufacturability.
  • Production Test Specifications β€” Review and agree production test strategies, test specifications, and required test coverage for PCBs and product assemblies.
  • Cost of Quality Improvements β€” Drive initiatives to reduce warranty costs, scrap, rework, and field service interventions through design changes and product test improvements.
  • Component Obsolescence and Shortage Management β€” Monitor component lifecycle and supply risk; develop and execute design implementation strategies for obsolescence mitigation, last-time buys, and approved alternates.
  • New to Current Product Handover β€” Review and agree handover of new products into the current products portfolio; ensure documentation, test coverage, and serviceability meet operational requirements.
  • Team Leadership and Development β€” Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of electronics engineers & technicians and allocate resources appropriately.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration β€” Act as the electronics interface to product and technology owners, procurement, quality, manufacturing, and product management.
  • Documentation and Compliance β€” Ensure design documentation, and Engineering change are maintained and meet the relevant regulatory standards.
Requirements
  • Electronics degree (BEng/BSc/Meng) or HND/HNC with demonstrated practical experience.
  • Relevant experience in electronics design and technical leadership.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with Change Management processes.
  • Experience managing component obsolescence, shortages and second source verification.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Clear technical communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and prioritise under competing demands.
