Reporting to the Machine Shop Shift manager, a Section Leader is required to ensure production targets are achieved in a cost-effective manner, ensuring that delivery performance is maintained at all times. The successful applicant will be expected to ensure that any inefficient processes are identified and eliminated, and that resources are correctly utilised such that machines and processes run smoothly. The successful candidate will be expected to work a 3 shift pattern (fortnightly rotation), with working hours as follows: 6am‑2pm, 2‑10pm and 10pm‑6am), with shorter shifts worked on the Friday. A corresponding shift premium of 30% is payable for working the specified shift pattern.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate effective management of staff on a daily basis in order to maximise productivity and efficiency
- Demonstrate effective management of all quality related issues with the implementation of robust corrective actions
- The investigation of process‑non‑conformance bookings and the raising of corrective action reports where appropriate
- Ensure all personnel adhere to machine shop standard discipline procedures
- Understand engineering and manufacturing problems and instigate remedial solutions with engineering and machine shop staff
- Provide technical guidance and support to staff
- Maintain an awareness of Health and Safety regulations which are in force in a manufacturing environment in order to ensure a safe working environment at all times
Key requirements
- A relevant City and Guilds / HNC qualification (or equivalent), or an apprenticeship served in manufacturing or engineering
- Strong manufacturing / engineering expertise
- Thorough knowledge of CNC machining
- Strong computer literacy in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Desirable requirements
- Expertise in management of people and manufacturing resources
- Appreciation of production planning principles
- Working knowledge of the Syteline ERP system
Person specification
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated and driven person who has the confidence to make decisions in a high pressure manufacturing environment. The individual will possess excellent problem solving skills and have a strong technical background and be capable of dealing with several issues simultaneously. Good communication skills, both written and verbal are essential in this role.
