You’ll benefit from leadership development and progression opportunities within a supportive and growing manufacturing environment, alongside ongoing training and the chance to influence and improve operational performance in a key production area.
Responsibilities:
- Leading day-to-day finishing operations to deliver production targets, customer requirements and workflow efficiency
- Monitoring and improving operational KPIs (e.g. throughput, efficiency, rework, credits to stock, fixed schedule hours and quality), taking proactive action to address issues
- Responding effectively to changing priorities and operational pressures, including short-term recovery actions and contributing to longer-term improvement initiatives
- Identifying and resolving process bottlenecks, inefficiencies and recurring issues, implementing sustainable improvements
- Ensuring finishing processes are completed safely, efficiently and to required quality standards, maintaining high standards of health, safety and housekeeping throughout the area
- Collaborating closely with production, assembly and quality teams to resolve shortages, disruptions and build stoppages quickly and effectively
- Driving communication and alignment across shifts, ensuring effective handovers and operational continuity
- Promoting accountability by managing performance, behaviours and attendance, using structured tools to support development and succession planning
- Supporting a positive, high-performing culture focused on ownership, teamwork and continuous improvement
Key requirements:
- Previous demonstrable supervisory or leadership experience within manufacturing, finishing, engineering or production environments
- Operationally aware with the ability to drive productivity and manage changing production demands
- Able to assess problems, implement effective short-term solutions and contribute to longer-term improvements
- Confident managing performance, accountability and difficult conversations, while developing high performers and addressing capability concerns
- Effective collaborator who can work cross-functionally and influence others, challenging constructively where required
- Maintains clear communication and alignment across shifts and departments, demonstrating quality awareness and attention to detail
- Resilient and composed under pressure, showing urgency and sound decision-making
- Ambitious, with potential to progress into a management role
Desirable requirement:
- Experience within process finishing or similar manufacturing/engineering environments
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems to support production planning and control
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and structured people or talent management approaches
Person specification:
