Renishaw's Co-ordinate Measuring and Gauging Division (CGPD) is looking for a Process Design & Development Engineer to join the Process Software Team. This is a multidisciplinary engineering role focused on the development of automated assembly and test systems used throughout the product lifecycle, from early concept evaluation through to full production. Working within a focused and collaborative team, you will design, develop, validate and implement innovative test rigs, manufacturing processes and automation solutions, combining mechanical, electrical and software engineering disciplines to deliver robust and capable systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automated assembly and test systems for new and existing products.
  • Work closely with product development teams from concept through to production to define process and test requirements.
  • Design, prototype and validate test equipment, tooling, fixtures and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop software solutions using technologies such as C#, LabVIEW, SQL and VBA to control, monitor and analyse automated systems.
  • Integrate sensors, instrumentation, motion control and data acquisition technologies into complex test environments.
  • Analyse test and process data to validate performance, capability and measurement system effectiveness.
  • Produce clear documentation including requirements specifications, design documentation, validation reports and handover information.
  • Work with manufacturing, NPI, project teams and specialist engineering groups to ensure solutions are safe, robust, efficient and manufacturable.
  • Investigate production and yield issues, identifying improvements to both products and processes.
  • Support continuous improvement activities across assembly, test and manufacturing operations.
  • Manage or support the sourcing, procurement and implementation of equipment and tooling required for new processes.

Key Requirements

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in at least one engineering discipline (software, electronics or mechanical design).
  • A genuine interest in developing skills across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience designing, developing or supporting automated test systems, manufacturing equipment or production processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience integrating sensors, instrumentation and industrial technologies into engineering systems.
  • Ability to analyse data and apply engineering judgement to drive decisions and improvements.
  • Experience working within a structured engineering environment, including design reviews, validation activities and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with C#, LabVIEW, SQL, Python or similar development environments.
  • Understanding of precision assembly or manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control, Gauge R&R, MSA, CpK and process capability analysis.
  • Experience with CAD packages such as Siemens NX or equivalent.
  • Understanding of electrical design, control systems or industrial communications.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git or similar project and source control tools.
  • Experience developing production test equipment or manufacturing automation solutions.
  • Knowledge of DfM, DfA, Process FMEA or Six Sigma methodologies.
