You will work as part of a team across Renfrewshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres, undertaking duties essential to the safe and efficient operation of sites. You will draw upon your experience of working in a waste environment and with the public while applying your knowledge of recycling processes and product segregation.

The role requires effective verbal and written communication skills, effective IT and data management skills and knowledge of using standard computer software packages such as Microsoft Office. You will be expected to gain a working knowledge of waste categories and the legislation relevant to site operations, including Waste Management Licensing and Waste Description and Transfer Notes.

This post requires you to be able to work on your own initiative as well as within a team, demonstrating self‑motivation, flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. You must be able to show initiative during difficult situations and communicate in a manner that remains tactful, firm and fair, particularly when handling potentially confrontational interactions.

The ability to influence and negotiate with site users is also essential to ensuring safe, compliant site operations. This role demands the ability to work in all weather conditions, plan and prioritise your workload, and supervise and direct site operatives where required. You must maintain a professional manner at all times, adopt a flexible approach to resolving operational issues, and be willing to move between sites in line with service needs.

The post will include alternate shift patterns. If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post.
