Renfrewshire Council is seeking a Strategic Communications Business Lead on a temporary basis to join our communications, marketing, events and digital service. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference by joining the Council’s Communications team at a time of unprecedented challenge and change - when effective and engaging communications are essential.
The Council believes that in order to meet the challenges of the future it will need to work even more closely with partners to develop and maintain a vibrant local economy, provide a sustainable business and cultural infrastructure, and to improve and protect the environment of Renfrewshire. We want to improve opportunities for all those who live and work in the area and we need especially to support the vulnerable, ensuring equality and fairness for all. The Council will not deliver these outcomes on its own – but can if it works closely and effectively with the wider community. Our communications agenda needs to support these aims.
As a member of the Corporate Communications team, you will be working proactively with council services and community partners to develop innovative and exciting campaigns and initiatives that ensure Renfrewshire as a whole benefits from an excellent and joined-up communications approach. You will have a senior role within the team, and will be embedded within one of our council services to provide specialist communications support, advice and guidance to the service director and their senior leadership team.
It is essential you have a relevant degree or qualification (e.g. NCTJ Journalism Diploma), with experience of working in communications/media/public relations, and a demonstrable proven track record of achievement. You will have relevant experience of the public sector or a similar diverse organisation, and demonstrable experience of leading and managing complex communications projects, developing internal communications channels, and project management.
It is expected you will have extensive knowledge of the local and national media landscape, as well as awareness of channels including social media and digital platforms. You will be a strategic thinker with effective negotiation skills, who can work with a range of partners, including senior management. You will have vision and drive, be creative and innovative, and able to work to tight deadlines. It is essential you have a full driving license.
If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post. If you would like further information in relation to the Disclosure Scotland checks, please visit www.disclosurescotland.co.uk.
