Renfrewshire Council is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Operational District Registrar to join our Registration Service. This is a senior and rewarding role supporting individuals and families through some of life’s most significant events including births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships.
You will lead the day-to-day operations of a district registration office, ensuring compliance with Scottish legislation, delivering exceptional customer service, and providing professional leadership to a team of Assistant Registrars. The role requires accuracy, empathy, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work confidently in sensitive and emotionally complex situations.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to your community while helping shape a modern, high-quality Registration Service. It is essential you have successfully completed the National Records of Scotland Registration Examination and hold the Certificate of Proficiency in the Law and Practice of Registration.
You must have experience working in a registrar role (births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships), experience conducting and supporting statutory registration processes as well as experience providing front-facing, high-quality customer service. Expert knowledge of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Scotland) Act 1965 and all related legislation, the ability to conduct civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies, including bespoke and off-site events with a high level of accuracy in maintaining secure physical and digital records is also essential.
You must have effective organisational, communication, customer service and IT skills as well as having the ability to manage conflicting priorities in a busy operational environment. In addition, you must have experience supporting recruitment, attendance, discipline, and grievance processes in line with HR policy and be flexible to work evenings, weekends, and participate in an on-call rota.
