This is an exciting opportunity to join Renfrewshire’s Children’s Services Social Work as a Team Manager. You will lead on and promote effective service delivery and provide high-quality support and supervision to workers based in our Children Services Pre and Post Birth Team.
Renfrewshire’s Children’s Services is focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for our children and young people. We are dedicated to creating an environment where Social Work practice can thrive, where Social Work teams are encouraged to be innovative and creative to ensure the services we offer to children and families help improve their lives. Our Pre and Post Birth Team is based in Johnstone Town Hall and works with parents who reside within the Renfrewshire Authority and where pre-birth support, guidance and or assessment may be required. Our team has been set up to provide a service which is better able to effectively respond to need at the earliest stage in pregnancy as well as to deliver purposeful pre-birth intervention aimed at supporting children to be safely cared for at home in the care of their families.
The Pre and Post Birth Team also undertake complex and challenging post birth parenting capacity assessments. The team require to undertake their role in a sensitive, nurturing and questioning manner with the focus being on the child’s safe care and future planning alongside supporting parents often at a time in their lives where they are most vulnerable.
Following a service redesign the Pre and Post Birth Team are in a position to develop and reshape with an emphasis around stronger scrutiny and quality assurance, alongside reviewing resources to ensure support is targeted at early intervention both pre and post birth. We want to make sure our service is fit for the future and has the flexibility and capacity to meet new challenges.
As one of our Team Managers, you will lead a dedicated team of Social Workers, overseeing professional practice, staff supervision, and effective deployment of resources. You will be responsible for managing risk and budgets and ensuring that assessments are progressed in a timely manner. Your role will ensure children's plans are regularly reviewed, closely monitored, and actively progressed, alongside taking a lead role in the development of the Pre and Post Birth Team. In addition to operational leadership, you will contribute to strategic developments across the Social Work service, taking the lead on delegated projects as required. Your role will be pivotal in driving continuous improvement and delivering positive outcomes for children and families.
As a Team Manager, you will be instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence in Social Work practice. You will lead with strength and compassion, ensuring that our Social Workers feel supported, empowered, and equipped to deliver high-quality services. Through your nurturing leadership, you will cultivate an environment where professional growth thrives, enabling our teams to achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes for children, young people, and their families.
You will be an integral part of the Frontline Services Management Team and will support the effective delivery of service in line with legislation, guidance, policies, and procedures for Children’s Social Work Services, both locally and nationally. You will have significant operational experience and knowledge of the broad landscape of contemporary Social Work practice. You will be able to demonstrate that you can model, promote, and deliver best practice within your team, embedding quality assurance and improvement.
The successful candidate will share our key commitment to our practitioners in terms of their professional support, learning and development. Your own practice will be aligned to the trauma-informed, relationship and strengths-based practice that underpins our work. Degree level qualification (Degree in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work (DipSw) or equivalent) is essential. You must have proven experience of leading and managing a service or team in line with professional standards and codes of practice, partnership working and delivering outcomes with partners.
A thorough understanding of children and families/ justice social work services in a local authority setting is required. Working knowledge of legislation and best practice, effective leadership, interpersonal, written and communication skills including the ability to produce reports on complex issues is also essential.

If successful, you will be required to undertake a PVG, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post.
