ADVERT School Technician Working as a school technician you will assist the teaching staff in the work necessary in the practical and laboratory areas of the Science department as well as occasional Audio Visual duties.

Duties include preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment and materials for biology, chemistry, physics, and applied sciences lessons, ensuring experiments run smoothly and safely.

You will assist the teaching staff within the Science department and will support the use of teaching resources throughout the school.

You will also be required to keep abreast of Health and Safety legislation.

You will provide support to all departments within the school as requested by the Head Teacher or nominee, although you will be based within the Science department.

You may on occasion support Audio Visual activities.

You will also be responsible for servicing Science practical areas and workrooms, ensuring that all equipment and materials are presented and stored in a safe condition.

This will include Monitoring and maintaining safety standards, including the safe storage and disposal of chemicals and biological specimens.

It is essential you have experience of working in a science department and an awareness of statutory inspection requirements and Health and Safety law.

You must have effective communication and organisational skills and be able to work on your own initiative whilst under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Education to HNC level or equivalent experience and Health and Safety qualifications are desirable as is experience of working in a busy science department.

Evidence of ability to follow safe working procedures and experience of handling chemicals is also essential.

If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post.
