You will be a Qualified Time-served Mechanic as recognised by an Industry Board and will be based at our Underwood Road Depot where you will work on all Renfrewshire Council’s transport fleet. The role is to undertake all aspects of servicing, testing, overhauls, repairs, planned maintenance and enhancements to a comprehensive range of vehicles, plant and equipment used by Fleet Operations / Community Services, other Council Services, and other clients, ensuring that all such works are carried out in a manner that positively contributes to a high quality, responsive and cost-effective service which meets Service and customer expectations.

You must have experience of servicing, maintenance, and repairs to a range of heavy goods, industrial and other vehicles, e.g., trucks, tippers, vans, cars, buses, tractors, trailers, refuse collection vehicles, container trucks, snow ploughs and gritting vehicles. Knowledge of DVSA’s guide to roadworthiness and specification of defects for maintenance and MOT preparation and knowledge of Transport and DVSA / DVLA procedure and standards along with knowledge of operating diagnostic tools is essential as is Health and Safety Awareness and understanding to the appropriate role and vehicle repairs is essential.

It is also essential you have experience preparing vehicles to DVSA MOT testing standards in accordance with regulatory and other approved specification and requirements. You will be able to work on your own with minimum supervision. Road test and diagnose vehicle faults under normal operating conditions. Carry out all assigned work to a high standard of workmanship, practice and customer care. As well as carry out and provide advice and instruction on service, maintenance work and repairs for an extensive range of vehicles and / or associated equipment.

Prioritise work and meet deadlines and respond positively when under pressure. This role will require you to be part of a standby rota. Employees are expected to be available for work outside of their regular hours, sometimes at short notice. It is essential you have a City & Guilds Certificate as well as a LGV licence, a category C and a driving license category CE is desirable. Renfrewshire Council offer competitive salaries for time served engineers. If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post.
