Renfrewshire is one of the larger authorities in Scotland with a population of 170,000 covering both urban and rural communities. Its area attracts major development opportunities and interests including Glasgow Airport, the major Riverside developments at Braehead and Renfrew, and the former Royal Ordnance Factory, Bishopton Community Growth Area together with an ambitious Council-led capital investment programme.
The post is based in Paisley and provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the Council’s high quality service provision. The Building Standards Team is part of the Economy and Development department and delivers the Council’s Building Standards functions.
We are looking to recruit an assistant building standards surveyor who will:
- Assess building warrant applications
- Carry out site inspections
- Determine completion certificates
- Provide assistance to members of the public on matters relating to Building Standards with a clear emphasis on improvement, performance delivery and customer service
You must have an HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject. Relevant experience within a construction related discipline and considerable construction knowledge is essential as are effective oral and written communication skills, experience of inspecting construction work, I.T. skills, and the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and respond positively when under pressure.
Desirable qualifications include:
- Degree in a relevant subject
- Qualified to ARICS, ACABE or ACIOB
- Relevant Building Standards experience
- Working knowledge of the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and associated legislation
- Driving license
If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post.
