Advert Department Environment, Housing and Infrastructure – Fleet Services Job Title Apprentice Mechanic (Year 1) Salary Scale APPGRADE16 – 37 hours per week (Pro Rata) Apprentice rates are based on a percentage of the mid-point of the qualified tradesperson scale on completion of each stage of the apprenticeship. 1st year 50% or living wage whichever is highest 2nd year 70% 3rd Year 80% 4th Year 85% Location Underwood Road Depot, 52 Underwood Road, Paisley Renfrewshire Council is seeking to recruit a Mechanic (Year 1) Modern Apprentice.

The successful applicant will be based at our Underwood Road Depot and will work on all Renfrewshire Council’s transport fleet to inspect, service and maintain motor vehicles (LGV) and plant.

The successful applicant will attend college and work towards achievement of the Scottish Vocational Qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair at SCQF Level 7.

The successful applicant will secure a 4-year fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship with positive opportunities for permanent employment with Renfrewshire Council.

Applicants must be a resident of the Renfrewshire area and preferably aged between 16 and 19 years at the start date of the apprenticeship.

It is essential that you have a genuine interest in the motor industry and possess a minimum of Three National 5 qualifications (OR comparable equivalent qualifications OR recent, relevant work experience).

Qualifications must include English, Maths, and a technical subject. e. g.

Craft and Design, Technical, Graphic Communication or Practical Craft Skills.

It is essential you have the ability to work as a team member, can work on your own, can show initiative and have effective interpersonal and communication skills.

It is desirable for you to have a driving license (or to be working towards gaining it), a PDA/NPA Level 1 or Level 2 Automotive Skills qualification, experience of working in similar environment, knowledge of the motor industry and of using appropriate trade tools, It is also desirable for you to have knowledge of Renfrewshire Council’s functions and can use a range of IT packages.
