Job Purpose: RES currently provides High Voltage Operations and Maintenance (HV O&M) Services to renewable energy assets in the UK & Ireland. Due to increased demand from our clients, we are seeking an HV Projects Engineer to work alongside our HV Operations Managers to develop, grow and improve this service. The role will focus on Project & Minor Scheme Management and System Performance whilst growing and improving the service in accordance with company safety, quality, and environmental systems. The key objectives are to maximise the performance from client assets, increase maintenance efficiency and achieve a high level of safety performance. The ideal candidate will have held HV authorisations, experience in project management and be able to put packages of work together, they will also have strong commercial awareness. This is a permanent role that is home based with regular travel to RES offices and operational sites across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Key Accountabilities: The responsibilities of the HV Projects Engineer include:
- Project specific activities: Develop project plans for minor high voltage projects including cost estimates, timelines, and resource requirements. Manage the installation of new high voltage equipment ensuring it is installed correctly and in accordance with regulations and industry standards. Liaise with equipment manufacturers and suppliers to obtain technical support and advice. Liaise with the Solar O&M, BESS and Wind projects team on cross boundary projects. Coordinate with other departments or contractors to schedule minor works and high voltage projects around other site activities.
- System performance activities: Monitor performance of high voltage equipment to identify potential issues or faults. Analyse data from high voltage equipment to identify trends or patterns that may indicate a potential issue. Investigate high voltage equipment failures to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Maintain accurate records of all high voltage equipment and work carried out. Prepare regulatory reports on high voltage equipment performance and failures. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Business development activities: Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders such as clients, regulatory bodies, industry association and suppliers. Provide technical advice and support to other departments or contractors on high voltage equipment matters. Attend industry conferences and events to keep up to date with developments and trends in the field.
- General activities: Conduct regular audits of personnel onsite and of high voltage equipment to ensure it is being maintained and managed correctly. Identify opportunities for process improvement in high voltage equipment maintenance and management. Review maintenance reports and schedules to ensure all high voltage equipment is being maintained in accordance with the O+M contractual agreements. Prepare risk assessments and method statements for works on high voltage equipment. Develop and implement safe systems of work for high voltage equipment maintenance activities.
Knowledge:
- Essential Knowledge of the key legislation underpinning UK high voltage electrical asset operation and maintenance.
- Detailed knowledge of UK industry HV electrical safety rules including HSG85.
- Detailed knowledge of HV asset maintenance practices including HSG230.
- Desirable Knowledge of renewable assets, Earthing system design, installation, test, Protection system design, installation, test, Relay set up, commissioning, testing.
Skills:

- Essential Track record of successful commercial and contractual business management.
- Track record of solving tough technical and commercial challenges with innovative approaches.
- Experience working under and contributing to improvements of ISO9001 compliant management systems.
- Experience of planning and running projects and minor works on HV equipment.
Qualifications:
- Essential Full UK driving licence.
- Experience in engineering or other relevant qualification, or equivalent industry experience.
- Electrical Engineering undergraduate degree or equivalent industry experience.
- IOSH Managing Safely or CITB SMSTS or equivalent.
- Desirable Holds or previously held SAP, AP, Control Person authorisation under high voltage electrical safety rules (not essential).
- NEBOSH diploma.
- Prince 2 / PMP qualification.
