We are currently looking for a Lead HGV Mechanic to join our expanding Transport Department. Reporting to the Transport Manager, we are seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic with experience in inspection and repair of fleet vehicles and trailers. Our Lead HGV Mechanic will oversee the day-to-day operations of a small team of mechanics and play an important role in the compliance, reliability and performance of our fleet.

What you’ll do in the position:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the workshop, leading a small team of mechanics
  • Work closely with the Transport Manager and compliance team to ensure all legal requirements of the fleet are met
  • Ensure that the Workshop Department has the required product knowledge/training/qualifications. Work with the wider management team to develop and progress the team
  • Ensure Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices are adhered to by the HGV Workshop Department
  • Carry out planned inspection, service, maintenance and repair of all types of vehicles and trailers in line with current regulatory guidance
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults
  • Possess a working knowledge of fault diagnostic equipment
  • MOT preparation
  • Provide mobile assistance as required
  • Ensure all vehicles worked upon are handled carefully and that all precautions are taken whilst on the premises
  • Liaise with parts suppliers to attain parts
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within the workshop area

What you’ll need:

  • Supervisory experience
  • Technical qualification (City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 qualified technician) or proven experience repairing & maintaining vehicles
  • Valid Driving License
  • Ability to work within guidelines given and to strict deadlines
  • Actively seek solutions to problems
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to undertake a wide range of tasks

A HGV Licence will be advantageous, but not necessary.
