Computer workshop technician in Ramsgate

Ramsgate Full-Time On-site
Renderboxes

Company Description

Renderboxes designs and hand-builds multi-GPU workstations for the creative and technical industries: 3D animation, VFX, virtual production, colour grading and AI. Based in Kent and trading since 2018, we make machines that bring render-farm power to the studio desk, quietly and without gamer aesthetics. Many of our systems use custom components designed in-house, from PCIe daughterboards to fully water-cooled GPU builds, so they're machines our clients can't buy anywhere else. Our clients include studios and agencies such as Netflix, WPP and Amazon Prime Video. Every machine is backed by personal aftercare from the same team that specs and builds it.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Computer Workshop Technician role at our workshop in Ramsgate, Kent. You'll assemble, configure and test custom multi-GPU workstations and render nodes to Renderboxes build standards and each client's specification.

Day to day, you will:

  • Build systems from component level, with clean, precise cable management and a finish worthy of a premium product
  • Install and configure operating systems (Windows 11 Pro and Linux), drivers, firmware and BIOS
  • Run burn-in testing of at least 24 hours on every machine (GPU, CPU and full-load stress tests, plus thermal checks) and interpret the results
  • Diagnose and fix hardware and software faults during builds and on returned systems
  • Carry out servicing, upgrades and warranty repairs
  • Keep accurate build and service records
  • Help improve our build quality and workshop processes as part of a small, hands-on team

Essential

  • Strong PC hardware skills: building, upgrading and troubleshooting desktops and workstations
  • A solid grasp of power, cooling and airflow in high-wattage systems
  • Experience installing Windows and Linux, managing drivers and updating firmware/BIOS
  • Ability to run stress tests and read stability and thermal results
  • Meticulous attention to detail in fitment, cable management and finish
  • Safe workshop practice, including ESD handling and correct use of tools and test equipment
  • Clear written and verbal communication for build notes, fault reports and occasional client contact
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset; comfortable working independently and in a small team

Desirable

  • Experience with multi-GPU or high-performance computing systems
  • Custom water-cooling experience: loop building, coolant handling, leak testing and maintenance
  • Basic network configuration (10GbE and above)
  • Previous work at a system integrator, PC repair shop or similar technical workshop
  • Training or certification in computer hardware, IT support or electronics
