We are growing our Geotechnical team in London and we have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our team.

About our role:

You will play a key role in delivering innovative geotechnical engineering solutions. Working on large-scale UK and international projects and undertaking design and analysis using structural/finite element software, day to day tasks will include:

  • Act as assignment manager overseeing technical delivery, commercial aspects, financial controls (forecasting & budgeting), planning, resourcing and troubleshooting.
  • Assist and support a high level of technical capability within the skill area as may be required to deliver the service offerings targeted.
  • Assist with the organisation and management of the technical staff (appropriate to skill), acting as a line manager when required, mentoring fellow engineers, supporting staff recruitment, training, CPD and implementation of ‘Best Practice’ and procedures.
  • Support Graduates through the processes and requirements for completion of their Chartership.

About you:

  • Degree Qualified and Chartered Civil Engineer.
  • Substantial experience in major assignments for a range of Clients in various construction market sectors.
  • Substantial experience of managing projects, budgets and resources.
  • Extensive knowledge of Eurocodes and other relevant national and international industry standards, contracts, methodologies and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical and engineering geological processes and design, with a particular emphasis on data interpretation, design & analysis, construction and advanced numerical modelling.
  • Detailed geotechnical design experience of large diameter deep piled foundations (driven, bored and CFA) to Eurocode, API, AASHTO, LRFD NGI and ICP methods / standards, seismic / dynamic analysis of deep piled foundations and pile groups, deep excavations, basements, retaining structures, earthworks, soil and rock slope engineering, ground improvement, seismicity and liquefaction and instrumentation and monitoring.
  • Ground investigation experience including design, preparation of tender documents, supervision, interpretation.
  • Expert / Proficient user of 2D and 3D finite element analysis software (e.g. PLAXIS, Z-soil).
  • Proficient user of other geotechnical software (WALLAP, Repute, GROUP, LPile, APile, Rocscience Slide2, gINT, or equivalent).
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate, listen and influence all levels of people effectively. Able to judge audience and communicate technically complex matters to all stakeholders.
  • Ability to think and act operationally and strategically, understands the bigger picture and commerciality of a situation, both for the project and Company.
