This is an opportunity to take on a senior role within a small residential setting, supporting the delivery of safe, consistent and high-quality care to children and young people.

You will work closely with the Registered Manager and wider team to provide effective leadership on shift, support colleagues and ensure that the individual needs, safety and wellbeing of the young people remain central to the care provided.

The Role

As a Senior Residential Care Worker, you will take responsibility for providing strong leadership and direction during shifts while continuing to deliver direct care and support to the young people. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking a lead role on shift and supporting the effective day-to-day running of the home.
  • Providing guidance, support and positive role modelling to other members of the care team.
  • Supporting the Registered Manager with the implementation of policies, procedures and standards.
  • Promoting high standards of safeguarding, care and professional practice.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with young people.
  • Supporting young people with their routines, activities, education, appointments and day-to-day needs.
  • Maintaining appropriate boundaries and ensuring consistent expectations are followed.
  • Supporting colleagues to follow care plans, risk assessments and agreed strategies.
  • Responding appropriately to incidents, challenging behaviour and safeguarding concerns.
  • Ensuring daily records, handovers and other documentation are completed accurately.
  • Supporting the implementation and review of care plans and risk assessments.
  • Communicating appropriately with families, social workers, education providers and other professionals.
  • Supporting new and less experienced staff through guidance, coaching and role modelling.
  • Contributing to team meetings, handovers, training and reflective practice.
  • Taking appropriate responsibility for the home and young people during your shift.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead by example, maintain professional standards and contribute positively to the overall running of the home.

Our Approach

The home is currently developing its practice and working towards becoming a more therapeutic and relationship-based environment. We are currently embedding PACE Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy into the way we work with young people. We recognise that behaviour can communicate underlying needs and experiences. We are therefore looking for someone who can remain calm, consistent and professional when young people are experiencing difficulties.

You do not need to have previously worked within a fully therapeutic environment. We are looking for someone who is open to learning, reflective in their practice and committed to developing their understanding of relationship-based and trauma-informed approaches. As a Senior, you will also have an important role in modelling these principles for other members of the team.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience working in residential childcare.
  • Experience working with children and young people who may present with challenging or complex behaviours.
  • Experience of taking responsibility for a shift or supporting other members of staff.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • The ability to build appropriate and positive relationships with young people.
  • Confidence in managing incidents and challenging situations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • A consistent approach to routines, boundaries and expectations.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A willingness to take responsibility and demonstrate leadership on shift.
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are looking to develop their career within residential childcare and who want to take on greater responsibility within a senior role.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (England) or equivalent.
  • Previous experience within residential childcare.
  • Full UK driving licence, held for at least 12 months.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working as a Senior Residential Care Worker or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring other staff.
  • Experience working with children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Experience of relationship-based, trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches.
  • A willingness to undertake further professional development.

Working Pattern

The home operates on a 2 days on / 4 days off rota.

  • Day 1: 10:00am - 11:00pm
  • Day 2: 7:00am - 11:00pm
  • Handover: 7:00am - 10:30am
  • Sleep-in payment: £60 per sleep-in

The working pattern provides consistency for the young people and allows staff to develop strong working relationships within a small residential environment.

  • £13.10 per hour
  • £60 sleep-in payment
  • 2 days on / 4 days off working pattern
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Support towards relevant qualifications
  • Opportunities for career progression
  • Regular supervision and management support
