Position Summary

Responsible for the production, analysis and underwriting of Casualty insurance and reinsurance business in line with Ren Re appetite.

A key contributor to defining appetite, designing and building portfolios and communicating with key internal and external stakeholders.

They lead by example to garner credibility both inside and outside of the organization.

Act as a trainer, leader and manager, directly or indirectly, of a team of Underwriters and Analysts.

Responsibilities include

  • Manage and underwrite a portfolio of casualty Insurance and Reinsurance for the Ren Re European platform.
  • Be an integral part of the underwriting process, from initial contact to providing underwriting recommendations on transactions to servicing client requests after the transaction closes.
  • Develop new business opportunities.

Work with clients and brokers to determine specific requirements, subsequently structuring products to address those needs (and variants from those needs).

  • Collaborate and communicate across Ren Re portfolios, locations and business units, working as part of a global underwriting team.
  • Maintain a high level of technical UW expertise for given lines of business and territories.
  • Inform internal stakeholders on market trends for given lines of business and territories.
  • Manage and assist in projects related to the management and improvement of proprietary Ren Re underwriting and portfolio management tools.
  • Maximise the use of, and contribute to the maintenance and improvements of Ren Re risk and underwriting tools and analytics.
  • Contribute to and often lead the management of key client and broker relationships.
  • Work closely with AVPs, VPs and SVPs in the team to share knowledge and experience.
  • Represent Ren Re at various internal and external client/industry events. May include travel where appropriate.
  • Anticipate internal and/or external business challenges and recommend process, product or service improvements
  • Other responsibilities as designated by the underwriting team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 20+ years’ experience underwriting Casualty risk, on an insurance/reinsurance basis
  • Experience and Expertise in underwriting London Market and International insurance/reinsurance business
  • College/University Degree Preferred
  • Expertise from a risk, regulatory, contractual, and competitive landscape perspective
  • Underwriting experience a must with strong negotiation skills
  • Balance of strong analytical skills with relationship management
  • Existing relationships in the insurance/reinsurance marketplace
  • Proven ability to manage portfolios of insurance/reinsurance, including responsibility for financial results
  • Proven ability to manage a team and have strong communication and collaboration skills internally
  • Experience in strategic and tactical business planning
