The position
At Remote, the Director of IT leads our IT Engineering team to enable Remoters to do their best work through innovative automation and AI solutions. We focus on automating processes across all teams and implementing cutting-edge AI tools to enhance productivity.
This management role requires strategic vision to guide our IT architecture with scalability in mind, while maintaining our core principle: \”Be invisible when you can be and unmissable when you should be.\”
You\’ll empower your team, provide strategic direction, and work cross-functionally with teams throughout Remote to advance our mission of making employment truly borderless.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for IT architecture and AI/automation adoption, making key decisions on foundational principles and technology roadmap that align with Remote\’s growth and future needs.
  • Demonstrate hands-on technical leadership – actively building solutions and automation while mentoring the team through practical examples rather than just direction.
  • Drive innovation in AI and automation by identifying important opportunities and implementing solutions. Also, establish guidelines for the safe use of these tools at Remote.
  • Take ownership of complex technical challenges, prioritizing autonomously based on business impact, and mobilizing resources to implement sustainable solutions.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence balanced with remarkable customer service, ensuring the IT team is both highly recognized for its expertise and appreciated for its approachability.
  • Display agency in identifying and solving problems without waiting for direction, proactively improving systems before issues arise.
  • Shape the evolution of IT Engineering at Remote, complex conventional perceptions of IT and pioneering innovative approaches to support a fully distributed workforce.

Requirements

  • A people-focused outlook where delivering remarkable service is your primary goal, with proven ability to collaborate across all departments.
  • Technical hands-on expertise with modern cloud infrastructure, SaaS integrations, and automation frameworks – you can build solutions yourself.
  • Must have experience with AI/automation tools and platforms. Should know how they are used, their limitations, and ethical concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with high agency – identifying needs, making decisions, and executing solutions without requiring constant guidance.
  • Significant experience with modern methods for managing devices and identities, including zero-trust security and automated setup on major platforms.
  • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing remote technical teams that consistently deliver results.
  • Remarkable context-switching abilities with solid focus, attention to detail, and empathy when addressing diverse stakeholder needs.
  • Ability to both mentor team members and continuously learn new technologies, remaining at the forefront of IT and AI/automation innovations.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change, able to define priorities and workflows in a fast-growing organization.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to identify automation opportunities others might miss.
  • Top-notch written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Remote work experience is highly valued but not required.

We use geo ranges to consider geographic pay differentials as part of our global compensation strategy to remain competitive in various markets while we hiring globally.
The base salary range for this full-time position is $72,300 USD to $162,700 USD. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.
At Remote, we foster internal mobility as a key element of our culture of employee growth and development, supported by a compensation philosophy that guarantees pay equity and fairness. Therefore, all compensation changes associated with an internal move will be reviewed by the Total Rewards & People Enablement team on a case by case basis.
