Leicester city council is looking for an Independent Chair to join their Safeguarding team. Predominantly for Initial and Review conferences; we may ask chairs to cover LAC reviews as required. Conferences are hybrid: initial conferences are in person and reviews are face‑to‑face with families; the majority of initial conferences are at Halford House; reviews in person are at Halford or in the community at children’s centres depending on risk and availability. Hybrid working as above – outside of meetings, chairs work at home for admin/virtual meetings. No part time; looking for full time. Conferences are booked twice per day, usually starting at 10 am and 1 pm.

What you’ll do: As an independent chair you will chair child‑protection conferences and quality‑assure the progression of child‑protection plans for children. Your leadership skills are essential to continue to drive quality services for children and their families.

What you’ll need: The ideal candidate will have substantial post‑qualifying experience in childcare and an up‑to‑date understanding of childcare legislation, policy and practice guidance in child protection and Looked‑After Children. You must be able to demonstrate sufficient skills in chairing complex meetings. You must show willingness to support additional demands in the unit, such as support to LADO and LAC reviews. Success with an enhanced Disclosure via the DBS is required. Experience as a social worker or manager who wants to develop and widen safeguarding skills is desirable. An induction and high level of support will be provided.
