Our client, Reading Council is looking for a qualified social worker to work as a Locum Case Manager, sometimes known as a Court Progression Manager to join the Joint Legal Team on a temporary basis.
The successful candidate will:
- Be a key point of contact between social workers, team managers, and Assistant Directors of Children's Services.
- Provide tracking, oversight, and guidance to drive cases in pre-proceedings and in court proceedings forward.
- Support social work teams to comply with court timescales.
- Drive improvement through quality assuring, monitoring, measuring and tracking progression of court proceedings.
You will have substantial experience of working within the family justice, including direct involvement in care proceedings and complex child protection matters. You will be confident in analysing case progression, identifying causes of delay, and escalating concerns where necessary.
A key part of the role involves providing support and challenge to social work teams, assisting in the preparation of written evidence, and ensuring that good practice is consistently applied. You will attend Legal Planning/Gateway meetings and monthly tracking meetings.
This role requires a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England, with excellent communication, organisational, and coaching skills. The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly resilient, and capable of managing competing priorities across multiple authorities.

We will be able to manage with a case manager working fully remotely as this is a locum role. This role is working with our clients in Wokingham and Bracknell, both of whom are based very close to the train stations in each town. Ideally, the clients would like the case manager to go in person once a week/fortnight but we could manage without this for the right candidate.
