Our client, Newcastle City Council is looking for a Child Protection Lead Practitioner to join their team.

To make decisions when considering thresholds of need and risk of harm to children and support practitioners in their work with children and families relating to Child Protection processes and thresholds. The role will include chairing Strategy Meetings, Child Protection Conferences and other meetings as necessary and to coach, mentor and provide support, guidance and direction to practitioners across the Children's Services system (both Council led delivery services and external partners) relating to risk of significant harm to children.

Main Duties

  • To convene and chair multi-agency meetings (i.e Strategy Meetings & Child Protection Conferences) when required in accordance with the Local Authority's and NSCP procedures, ensuring that the child's plan is implemented within the child's timescale.
  • To ensure that records and reports are completed within timescales, are monitored, and shared appropriately.
  • To ensure that meetings are conducted according to statutory and policy requirements and core standards and that all children and young people, parents/carers and relevant professionals are supported to be able to fully participate.
  • To contribute to the formulation and delivery of multi-agency training, including advanced and specialist training relating to safeguarding children and best practice.
  • To support and challenge, where appropriate, any issue, such as drift, delay or identifying any gaps with service provision through the Local Authority's Case Discussion and Escalation Process.
  • To be accountable for relevant decision-making processes and utilise the necessary IT systems to record professional involvement to agreed recording standards and timescales and support the provision of data/information for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
  • Provide expertise related to child protection activity and co-work with lead practitioners, including those non-social work qualified members of the team and partners, making key decisions to support child protection work where relevant.
  • To work within a flexible framework in order to meet the demands of the service outside usual core hours.
  • Act as a specialist resource to teams, managers and appropriate others, providing advice, guidance, consultation, direction and training as required.
  • To participate in the completion of reports relating to practice reviews, and any other quality assurance activity, as required.
