This is not your usual classroom job. A brand-new Alternative Provision is opening in East Riding this October, and Remedy Education is helping build the founding team. We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who understands that behaviour is often just the surface and knows how to stick with young people even on the tough days.

This setting will support primary and secondary students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs - pupils who have struggled to settle in mainstream and need a more individual approach to learning, trust, and routine. If you are calm, firm, and not afraid of a bit of chaos now and then, this might be the role you have been looking for.

What the role involves:

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement
  • Helping students access learning in a way that makes sense for them
  • Keeping lessons, transitions, and unstructured times calm and purposeful
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral leads to follow behaviour plans
  • Being a consistent, steady adult presence in their school day

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in SEMH, PRUs, or alternative provision (or similar)
  • Can hold boundaries with empathy, not ego
  • Does not take challenging behaviour personally
  • Can adapt quickly, stay grounded, and keep showing up
  • Has a current DBS on the update service (or is happy to apply through us)

What this school offers:

  • A brand-new start, with leadership who want to do things differently
  • Full training in behaviour support, safeguarding, and trauma-informed practice
  • A small, tight-knit staff team focused on support - not blame
  • Clear expectations, real structure, and backing when you need it
  • The chance to help shape a brand-new setting from day one

If you have worked in roles where you had to be everything - teacher, coach, mentor, counsellor - you will fit right in. And if you are ready to make a genuine difference to students who have had a rough start, we would love to hear from you.

To apply, send your CV to Remedy Education or call us on 0208 418 1390 and ask for Zeki to find out more.

Please note: All applicants must have the right to work in the UK. An enhanced DBS and references will be required as part of safer recruitment practices.
