Our client Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join their Children with Disabilities team.
The role includes:
- Assessing the needs of children/young people with complex and specialist needs within the home environment, considering the needs of parents/carers.
- Completing risk assessments where risks within the home environment cannot be reduced to a reasonable level.
- Carrying out manual handling assessments within the community to minimise handling risks to children/young people, parents, and informal carers.
- Adhering to and applying the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for Occupational Therapists (Royal College of Occupational Therapy).
- Independently managing a complex caseload in consultation with the Manager.
- Providing advice on the management of disability to children/young people, parents, and carers, including equipment provision and recommending long-term interventions, in accordance with the authority's policy and guidelines.
- Working in partnership with children/young people, parents, and carers to determine the most appropriate intervention required to meet assessed needs and maximise independence.
- Liaising, negotiating, and working jointly with other teams and agencies involved in organising and providing services.
- Maintaining accurate and concise documentation consistent with legal and organisational requirements.
- Providing advice and information to children/young people with low-level needs and redirecting them to other services as appropriate.
- Providing support, guidance, and training to new staff members, students, and staff in other teams to increase awareness of Occupational Therapy in the community.
- Being involved in team development activities and projects.
