About the Role - Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant
As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with experienced teaching staff to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, moderate to severe learning difficulties, and communication needs. This role focuses on building positive, trusting relationships, supporting emotional regulation, and helping pupils access learning through tailored, inclusive and individualised approaches. Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 and small group support
- Supporting differentiated and personalised learning activities
- Promoting communication, independence, and social development
- Supporting sensory needs and structured routines
- Assisting with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and specialist staff
- Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant
- Patient, empathetic and emotionally intelligent
- Passionate about SEN, SEMH and inclusive education
- Resilient and confident in managing challenging behaviour
- Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building ability
- Proactive, adaptable and solution-focused
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Experience as a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, SEN TA, Learning Support Assistant, or within care, youth work, psychology or support work is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs or complex needs is beneficial but not essential.
