About the Role

Social work is at the heart of social and community innovations in mental health service in Trafford. An exciting opportunity has arisen, and we currently have a full-time and a part-time social work vacancy within the Adults Mental Health Social care Team in Trafford. This is an exciting time to work as a mental health social worker due to the recent community transformational work which recently took place as our social workers transitioned from an integrated service, back under the management of Trafford council. The aim is to contribute to better practice, better mental health outcomes and place-based service which provide right care, at the right place, and the right time.

Within the world of social work, this reflects the prevent, reduce, delay statutory requirements within the Care Act 2014 and the importance of the wellbeing principle. Within this social work role, the expectation will be that for the people you support lead fulfilling lives and reach their potential to live as independently as possible, that you work in a holistic approach, with the person and their social network, helping to strengthen and build sustainable families and social capital.

On a day-to-day basis you will work alongside social work colleagues and carry a caseload of people with severe mental health problems. Work will be underpinned by the social model of disability, work within a strengths-based approach and deliver statutory duties as per the Care Act 2014 (and other applicable legislation such as the HRA 1998/ MHA 1983/ MCA 2005) and the mental health recovery model. To support you to achieve this you will be supported with regular social work supervision and support to maintain your professional identity, access to relevant training from Trafford Council. You will have regular invites to Trafford's Adult Social Care Forum and made to feel part of the Trafford family alongside having strong links to Trafford's Principal Social Worker and CPD opportunities and career progression.

About you

We are looking to recruit Social Workers that can work with warmth, empathy, and genuineness and have a strong social work identity. For this role you need to be a social worker that is driven and passionate to make that difference and work within a strong human rights framework to drive social justice and equal opportunity for people with mental health difficulties. You will need to be a collaborative person with excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills who uses their professional curiosity and inquisitive enquiry at every contact to promote person-centred outcomes and wellbeing.

You will need to have a good knowledge base around ethical and legal literacy, and are committed to continually learning and improving the way you do things to ensure effective outcomes. You will need to be able to value and respect others' contributions, be able to professionally challenge when applicable and work within a 'solutions focused' and 'can do approach' within a specialist service area. This is key to improve outcomes for adults experiencing poor mental health and to support their families within a think family approach.

Underpinned by your social work values and ethics you will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of enablement services which aim to prevent, reduce and delay the need for crisis interventions (where possible), and care and support systems, be able to support risk enablement and positive risk taking whilst mitigating preventable harm to self and/or others using your legal and statutory knowledge. You will be a reflective social worker and creative in terms of strengths-based practice and innovation to resolve issues and change what you do and how you do it to make a difference. You need to be registered as a social worker as part of the Social Work England requirements. You will keep up to date with the relevant regulations, policy, and legislation as per the Professional Capabilities Framework stipulated by Social Work England. You will be required to drive in this role.
