Makaton Trained Teaching Assistant Required
Remedy Education is currently recruiting for a Makaton Trained Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and well-established SEN school in Enfield from September 2026. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), Speech and Language difficulties and complex communication needs. The successful candidate will use Makaton to help pupils develop their communication, confidence and independence, working closely with teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
This role would suit someone who is patient, compassionate and passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs.
The Role
- Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups throughout the school day.
- Use Makaton to support communication and language development.
- Assist pupils with Autism and complex communication needs to access learning.
- Work alongside teachers, Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals.
- Deliver tailored interventions and communication-based activities.
- Encourage pupils' social, emotional and academic development.
- Promote positive behaviour using consistent and supportive strategies.
- Support pupils with personal care where required (training provided if necessary).
The Ideal Candidate
- Makaton trained with practical experience using Makaton in an educational or care setting.
- Previous experience supporting children with Autism and additional learning needs.
- Experience working within an SEN school or similar environment is desirable.
- A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
