Home Tutor Required Special Educational Needs (SEN) Scarborough

Hours: 10 hours per week

Location: Scarborough region (candidates from nearby areas also considered)

Start Date: Immediate / As soon as possible

Remedy Tutors are increasingly active across North Yorkshire and we have a small number of interesting SEN opportunities. I’ve outlined one specific role below.

About this Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEN home tutor to support a young child who is transitioning into education after a recent move. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference by providing personalised, one-to-one support in the child’s home.

What the ideal tutor will:

  • Have experience with early years children and those with developmental or communication difficulties.
  • Be skilled in play-based learning, turn-taking games, action rhymes, and sensory engagement.
  • Be proficient in augmentative communication methods and early communication strategies.
  • Support emotional regulation and help manage distress and sensory differences.
  • Monitor progress against EHCP outcomes, maintain records, and provide reports for review meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, professionals, and the commissioning team.

Key Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS certificate
  • Safeguarding training within the last 12 months
  • Knowledge of KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education)
  • Patience, empathy, and flexibility to adapt to the child’s needs
  • Reliable and consistent

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 educational sessions in the child’s home (10 hours per week)
  • Engage the child in structured, motivating activities to meet EHCP outcomes
  • Encourage communication, social interaction, and attention skills
  • Support the child’s transition into mainstream education
  • Report progress and any safeguarding or attendance concerns promptly
